There’s a new report that says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were left unsurprised a statement from Queen Elizabeth following their allegations of a closeted racist behind closed doors at Buckingham Palace. During their interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March, Meghan said that some of the racism she faced as a royal “did not go unnoticed.” Here’s what you need to know.
In their tell-all with Oprah, Harry and Meghan said there were some “concerns” over how dark her baby’s skin would be when she was still pregnant with her son Archie back in 2019.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex refused to out the royal racist, Queen Elizabeth fired back with a statement that suggested “recollections may vary.” In other words, it’s a royal “he said, she said” showdown.
In the updated version of the bio “Finding Freedom,” the book quotes a source close to the couple as saying they were “‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken.”
“Months later and little accountability has been taken,” a source close to Markle said. “How can you move forward without that?”
“It took 36 hours for the palace to weigh in” on Harry and Meghan’s interview with Winfrey, the authors write, “when Queen Elizabeth issued a statement that said they were saddened to hear about Harry and Meghan’s challenges as royals.
“Buckingham Palace,” they note, “had no further comment on the updated book.”
The new edition of the book is to be published Aug. 31. Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s memoir will hit bookshelves in October of 2022. It’s yet to be titled.
